The 450m tall Suzhou Super Tower will be a landmark in the city’s skyline and its character and form will be identified with Suzhou. The building must be unique to its location and evolve directly from its site and context. Our proposal seeks to anchor the building in ideas that are significant to Suzhou, embodying a modern 21st century presence that is symbolic and tied to the city’s identity. Our proposal is reminiscent of a fish, a symbol of prosperity, appropriate for the tallest landmark of Suzhou. Water has historically played a major role in Suzhou’s history and identity; the city is surrounded by lakes and canals and is known as “Venice of the East”.
